I know that sounds a little dramatic, but dealing with chronic stress and anxiety is pretty dramatic too. Here's the thing that most practitioners won't tell you: In order to create PERMANENT change, you must address all parts of yourself. To achieve complete healing and balance within yourself, you must look at what is going on in all four of your bodies: the emotional, mental, physical, and energetic. Here is what I usually see in my practice. Tell me if this sounds anything like you:

  • "I've been taking medication, and it helps, but if I get off it, I will be overwhelmed with anxiety." Medication is great for many people, but it only addresses the problem at the physical level, ignoring the mental, emotional, and energetic aspects.

  • "I've been in therapy for years, and I don't feel much better. I feel stuck." The right therapist can change your life, but most therapeutic modalities help the emotional and (conscious) mental bodies, ignoring the energetic and physical aspects.

  • "I have done endless yoga and Reiki classes and sessions, and I feel good immediately after, but I come right back to feeling awful." Balancing the energetic body is an amazing tool when you have a great practitioner (or even when you do it on your own), but it addresses the energetic body and, to a limited extent, the physical and emotional aspects, leaving the mental aspect completely out of the picture.

Don't get me wrong, there's huge value in all different kinds of practices, and they work wonders when you are open and willing to change and have a solid practitioner leading your way. Many people find a great deal of satisfaction with traditional modalities. If that's you, congratulations! You found your way. MENTAL: Your mind body is your brain and all of the wonderful things that it does. Think of your mind body as having three parts. It's composed of your conscious mind, always working, planning and being logical. Your unconscious mind is in charge of your autonomic nervous system, your automatic functions like breathing, digesting and responding to stress. And your subconscious mind, the part of you that learned how to be you by holding on to memories, learned behaviors and belief systems. 

The mental body plays a vital role in our overall consciousness and shapes our understanding of the world and ourselves. It is where we process information, make sense of our experiences, and construct our individual narratives. The mental body is closely intertwined with language and communication, as it allows us to conceptualize, categorize, and articulate our thoughts and ideas.

While it may not be possible to completely separate the emotional body from its physical and chemical manifestations, understanding and exploring its experiential dimensions can deepen our comprehension of our emotional lives.

ENERGETIC: Your energetic body is the seat of our intuition and gut instincts, often providing us with a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you. It is through this aspect of your being that you establish emotional connections with others, empathize with their experiences, and form meaningful relationships. The energetic or spiritual body refers to the subtle energy field that exists beyond the physical body. It is often described as a non-physical, ethereal aspect of our being that underlies and interpenetrates the physical form.

The energetic or spiritual body is intimately connected to our consciousness and spiritual journey. It is believed to be the vehicle through which we connect to higher dimensions of existence, explore our inner depths, and access expanded states of awareness and spiritual insights. It is through this aspect of our being that we may experience a sense of unity, oneness, and transcendence.

PHYSICAL: The physical body serves as the vessel through which the emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of our being interact with our external world. It plays a crucial role in processing the information received from these other bodies and translating it into somatic effects through various physiological mechanisms. It is intricately linked via a complex network of communication pathways. Emotions, thoughts and energetic signals originate as subjective experiences within the other bodies, and they can trigger specific physiological responses in the physical body. 

The physical body processes the information from the emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies through a variety of physiological mechanisms, including the endocrine system, the nervous system, and the immune system. Hormones and neurotransmitters play key roles in transmitting signals and coordinating responses throughout the body.
